2006-06-21 - 11:59 a.m. OK, I'm finally getting back to the vacation...I know it's taken awhile but life (or just me) has been, I don't know, pissy this week. I've had a migraine for 2 days and it has not made me a happy camper. I'm trying to kill it, but so far, no dice. Anyway, enough about me, onward (or backward) to *my* vacation. When we last left our heroine, she and her traveling companion were about to embark on a walking trek down the "strip" in Pigeon Forge, TN. We decided to walk, not drive, not realizing we had no idea where we were going to go--we were just going somewhere--and we knew it would be good exercise for us. This turned out to be a tad bit of a mistake. First of all, it was 95 degrees. Secondly, my friend had new sandals on which subsequently gave her nasty blisters on her toes. That was later fixed by a trip to the Payless. But I digress. We headed off down the sidewalk and finally ended up at a little shopping plaza known as "The Old Mill" mostly because it was, um, an old mill. We stopped there for lunch then looked in several of the shops. Nice pottery and gifty stuff like that. We spent some money then decided it was time to head back to the hotel. Well. How about this for luck?! We were right next to the trolley station. Yay! right? Oh no. We got on the trolley and headed back down the strip towards our hotel. Let me just say, if you are ever in Pigeon Forge, DO NOT take the trolley unless you have copious amounts of time to spare. Our hotel was about 3 minutes away, but...our trolley ride took around 45 min. We stopped at EVERY campground and RV park way off the strip. We definitely took the scenic route. We finally made it back to our hotel where we promptly crashed for awhile. Upon reviving ourselves for another round of cheesy, touristy goodness, we headed 5 miles down the road to Gatlinburg, TN. It is a Mecca of Touristy-ness, but our goal was the Ripley's Believe it or Not Haunted attraction. And a great attraction it is! I would highly recommend a visit to any haunted house afficianado. We had a great time roaming through the "old abandoned casket company" hee-hee. Definitely a highlight of the trip. After being scared, we walked around town for a bit, then headed back to PF for some mexican dinner and back to crash. And that was the end of the first day. (I know, I'm being wordy here, but it's fun, ya know?) I shall continue with day 2 later...and don't worry, we crammed a lot in, but not quite as much. :)
