2006-06-03 - 9:33 a.m. Took the day off yesterday and headed to Gatlinburg, TN with Mom for the purpose of visiting the Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies. (damn, that was a long sentence) We left here around 9:30ish and took the scenic route there. That means going through the other tourist traps known as Maggie Valley, NC and Cherokee, NC. I was completely bombarded with tackiness! and it was good! Makes me look forward to my trip to Pigeon Forge even more. The aquarium itself was awesome and I would so recommend it for anyone who digs that kind of thing. LOTS of stuff to look at in there. Some more memorable critters were: sawfish, pirrahana (sp?), and seadragons. They have a very cool thing where you go in an underwater tunnel through the main tank. Lots of sharks. Sharks that are so close you could touch them if you weren't surrounded by inches of plexiglass. Very, very cool. There was also a pirate exhibit. Yes, maybe a tad out of place, but what the hell? you can't have a good Ripley's museum without a couple of skulls and torture devices thrown in somewhere. It was a very lovely outing and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Although by the end of the drive back I admit to being a little testy. Moi? Testy? never! (yeah, right) It's a nasty little two-lane winding road through the Great Smokies National Park. Fun to drive, but only if you don't have a slow-poke from Florida going 25 in front of you. Frustrating doesn't even cover it. Well, it's Saturday and I'm off to do Saturday things. The main horribleness I must live through involves a cook-out I DO NOT want to attend. Basically it's a "fix-up" situation and I am not amused. I tried my best to tell the chick who arranged the thing I didn't want to, but damn it, she wouldn't take NO or HELL NO for an answer. sigh. I'll suck it up and go, but...I'm not happy about it. Alright, I'm about out of coffee, so gotta go!
