The trip to Charlotte yesterday was just lovely. It was nice just to have the day off, but to add the viewing of the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit on to it, that was great.

Some thoughts about the exhibit...

It is awesome to be able to see pieces of some of the oldest books on the planet. To think about how old they were boggles the mind. To think about how what is written on them is probably the most singular influence on Society is also mind-blowing. Besides the scroll fragments themselves, there were several really cool artifacts. They had some of the actual jars that the scrolls were found in, there were Roman and Judean coins (minted during the reigns of Nero and Herod), other ceramics, textiles, and Roman glass. I loved looking at all of it.

However, the museum let too many people into the exhibit at once. Way too crowded and that diminished the experience a bit. I was struck by a thought while looking at a replica of the oldest known copy of the Ten Commandments... how about a new one? "Thou Shalt Not Be a Rude-Ass Bitch who cuts in front of everyone else to look at this". Seriously, people were doing a bit of the ol' shoving and jostling thing and it pissed me completely. You would think that people viewing sacred writings would be a bit more respectful of their fellow man...you would think. It just made me even more irritated with humanity.

There was another interesting episode...when we were finished with the exhibit, a very INTERESTING woman appeared. She was, ummm...rather devout, or something. She was wearing a Union Jack T-shirt and had the word "Jesus" painted all over her jeans. She seemed to be british, but who knows. She wanted everyone to know that she couldn't stand Jehovah's Witnesses. WTF? Can you say "crazy"? I sure can. Well, it certainly added to the trip. Anyway, it was a great thing to see and gave me some stuff to think about. So the big weekend ahead promises to be busy (as usual) I've got a pipe band gig, a band concert, maybe a movie, a cookout to go to, and hopefully a little painting of my bathroom. Oh, and I'd like to rest a little too. We'll see about that last one. Have a great weekend!
